Fabrizio Degni is Chief AI Officer and AI & Data Governance Manager at Webuild, a global industrial group delivering large-scale, complex infrastructure projects with a strong focus on sustainability. Degni specializes in translating ethical and governance regulatory principles into concrete, auditable AI governance models and is the creator of the open-source P.A.L.O. (Principled AI Lifecycle Orchestration) framework, designed to support risk-based, real-world AI adoption for promoting the human agency.
Degni actively contributes to international AI standards through ISO/IEC, CEN/CENELEC, and IEEE working groups and serves as President of the Italy Chapter of the Global Council for Responsible AI. Fun fact: the P.A.L.O. framework is also available as a mobile app, because Degni believes responsible AI governance should be as accessible as the tools it aims to govern.

Give us a brief overview of the path that led to your current role.
My academic journey includes roles as Chief AI Officer and AI Data Scientist NoCode Low Code Master at MIT, as well as a Doctorate in Computer Science and an International Executive MBA from Polimi, which I will achieve within the next three months. These are just a few of my over 120 certifications, because I believe that knowledge is a continuous learning process.

What is the greatest challenge CISOs face today, and how are you addressing it?
Ethical governance of the uncertainty, with humans in control not just a part of the loop: preserving and promoting the human agency.
What is the key to success for someone just starting out as a CISO?
Have a purpose and be always in the moment.

When people are aware of what they do and they are understanding what's going on.
