Alberto Perini

Global CISO

Azimut Grou

I’m a cybersecurity expert with over 21 years of international experience, currently serving as Global CISO for Azimut. I lead group-wide security governance, oversee the GRC team, and support regulatory alignment, including digital resilience strategies under DORA. My background spans the development of SOCs, IT/OT/IoT security, and compliance with global standards like NIST, ISO27001, and ISA/IEC 62443. I specialize in threat intelligence and the study of cybercriminal behaviors to proactively defend organizations against advanced threats.

Give us a brief overview of the path that led to your current role.

A constant drive to understand how cyber threats evolve and how to stay ahead of them is what brought me here. Over the years, I’ve combined hands-on technical work with strategic leadership, building SOCs, guiding incident response, and shaping governance in complex environments. This blend of deep field experience and vision naturally led me to my current role as Global CISO, where I can create impact at scale.

What is one of your guiding leadership principles?

One of my core leadership principles is the combination of determination and curiosity. Determination helps me stay focused and drive results, even in complex and high-pressure environments. Curiosity keeps me learning, questioning assumptions, and exploring innovative ways to solve problems especially when dealing with evolving threats and emerging technologies. Together, they allow me to lead with vision and adaptability.

What is the greatest challenge CISOs face today, and how are you addressing it?

One of the biggest challenges in my role as CISO is communicating complex cybersecurity risks in a clear, business-relevant way. To address this, I focus on translating technical scenarios into strategic insights, aligning security with business goals, and enabling informed decisions at every level of the organization.

What is the key to success for someone just starting out as a CISO?

The key to success is finding the right balance between technical depth, strategic vision, and communication skills. You need to understand the technology, anticipate threats, and translate that into business language the board can act on.

How do you measure success as a leader?

I measure success by how I empower my team and the clarity of vision I bring. When people grow, take ownership, and move with purpose even without me in the room, that’s true leadership.

What is the value of being a member of Gartner C-level Communities?
