Matt Diamond is Chief Information Officer at McAfee, where since November 2021 he has led technology and security strategy while also overseeing Procurement and Customer Service. He previously spent six years at Secureworks (a Dell Technologies company), helping drive its transformation from a managed security services provider into a SaaS security software company, and earlier built Dell's laptop supply chain in Singapore.

His leadership, which earned him the CIO of the Year ORBIE Award, blends technical expertise with a people-first approach. He holds an MBA in Finance from the University of Texas plus training in Mechanical Engineering, Business, and German, and executive education from the Indian Institute of Management. Based in Atlanta, he's also spent over 20 years advocating for organizations combating domestic violence, including board service at a women's shelter.

Give us a brief overview of the path that led to your current role.

I have focused on creation of value that is measurable in the P&L of the company through the utilization of leading edge technologies and process change.
 

What is one of your guiding leadership principles?

Clearly establishing the long-term strategy and destination of the organization enables decision making in the most distributed fashion and significantly increases velocity.
 

What is the greatest challenge CIOs face today, and how are you addressing it?

Establishing the list of problems that we should solve vs. a list of problems that we can solve.

What is the key to success for someone just starting out as a CIO?

Understand where alignment exists and where alignment must be found.
 

How do you measure success as a leader?

Success as a leader is measured by the level of talent that you can bring to the organization.
