What is one of your guiding leadership principles?

Lead with empathy and invest in relationships – never burn bridges, because lasting trust fuels lasting impact.

What is the greatest challenge CDAOs face today, and how are you addressing it?

One of the greatest challenges for today’s Chief Data & AI Officer is navigating the increased visibility of a relatively new role within established executive teams. Long-standing leaders may be cautious of the growing spotlight on data and AI if it appears to shift influence or priorities. I address this by positioning the CDAO function as an enabler, aligning data initiatives to each executive’s mission and goals. By fostering shared ownership and highlighting joint successes, data becomes a force multiplier rather than a point of competition. This approach transforms visibility into collective value that advances the entire organization.

What is the key to success for someone just starting out as a CDAO?

Lead with relationships, align data to mission outcomes, and deliver quick wins that build trust. Success comes from positioning data as a shared asset that strengthens decision-making and organizational impact.

How do you measure success as a leader?

Success is measured by trusted data, widespread adoption, and measurable mission impact. When data drives decisions, AI is used responsibly, and collaboration improves outcomes, the CDAO function is delivering real value.
