Marnie Wilking is a pragmatic, driven cybersecurity leader with more than twenty years of experience aligning cybersecurity strategy with business objectives to support and accelerate growth. She has built and led Cybersecurity and Enterprise Risk Management programs to meet business and regulatory needs for Financial Services, Healthcare Technology, and E-Commerce companies worldwide. She is also currently serving on the Board of Directors for Robert Half, International.

Give us a brief overview of the path that led to your current role.
I started as a developer with a Big4 consulting firm. Then moved to a very large US-based financial services company in the cryptography services division implementing encryption on the mainframe. Over the next 16 years with that company, I did nearly every cybersecurity job except pen tester and SOC analyst. I was the CISO for a healthcare technology company (Scottsdale), then the CISO for Wayfair (Boston), and now Booking.com in Amsterdam.
What is one of your guiding leadership principles?
Everyone should love what they do, love (or like) the people they work with, and feel like they're making a difference.
With disruption being a key theme of recent years, where do you see the CISO role going in the next 1-2 years?
We have to become more attuned to the business needs, and align our strategy to the business.
What advice would you give to someone just starting out as a CISO?
Get to know the business leaders and processes as much as possible, so that you can understand the real risks to the business, not just the ones everyone is talking about.

- I love to travel (and plan travel).
- I love learning languages (but am not great at any of them).
