Governing Body Spotlight

Governing Body Member of the Phoenix CISO Community

Noah Wallace

Director of InfoSec

Progress Residential

Noah Wallace is a director of InfoSec at Progress Residential and leads the information security and compliance program. He has over 20 years of IT experience in infrastructure architecture and security, which has led to secure, resilient, and highly available environments.

By assessing critical risks, analyzing the threat environment, and utilizing the most current technology, Noah has developed the security program at his previous company from the ground up and brings this experience to every company he works with. Noah has substantially shifted the IT culture in every company he is a part of to focus on security first by promoting education, security awareness, and transparency.

Noah has also engaged the non-security IT resources to integrate security into their processes through the creation of a threat hunting program and challenging them to obtain security certifications. Within the community, Noah has brought valley security teams together to foster trusted discussions about security vulnerabilities and solutions that companies without many security resources can leverage to mature their programs.

Noah is passionate about educating and advancing his colleagues so they attain their desired level of achievement. When he is not working, Noah loves to cook, hike, and spend time with his wife and two daughters.

Give us a brief overview of the path that led to your current role.

The path that led to my current role started out with curiosity and tinkering.

What is one of your guiding leadership principles?

There are many guiding leadership principles, but I believe in and encourage continuous learning and development. Curiosity and growth motivate team members to learn and improve their skills. Investing in training and development nurtures talent within the organization.

What is the greatest challenge CISOs face today, and how are you addressing it?

Burnout and stress are the greatest challenges CISOs face today. I prioritize self-care and focus myself and my team on a solid work/life balance. I take in nature as frequently as possible and remember to breathe.

What is the key to success for someone just starting out as a CISO?

The key to success is to listen to understand, not to respond.

How do you measure success as a leader?

I measure success by encouraging employees to be more than who they think they are and by the leaders that trust me and the organizational impact I make.
