Frederik Bisbjerg is the Chief Transformation Officer at AXA Global Healthcare. Based in the Middle East since 2013, Frederik is a prominent keynote speaker and expert for local and international business innovation and development, working with companies seeking to leverage digital opportunities. Frederik is also the Head of MENA/Digital Transformation Specialist with the Digital Insurer, the world’s largest knowledge base on digital insurance with more than 35,000 active members.

Give us a brief overview of the path that led to your current role.
Highly opportunistic, I followed a path of exciting roles starting in Scandinavia, later moving via China, through the Far East and ending in the Middle East, with engagement in London.
What is one of your guiding leadership principles?
It is crucial to align on roles and responsibilities, set clear goals, steer performance management, and spend your time coaching the team on how to reach the targets. You get nothing done alone – it must be a team effort, and the better you equip your team, the better the chances you will reach your goals!
With disruption being a key theme of recent years, where do you see the CIO role going in the next 1-2 years?
Disruption has been a key theme for many years, and yet we’re still seeing evolution. I think we’ll continue to see evolution, albeit at a faster pace. The key role of the CIO is to ensure the firm is capable of moving fast and flexible enough to keep up with the pace of this evolution.
What advice would you give to someone just starting out as a CIO?
Get your stakeholder map in place and understand the politics of the organisation. Work with the business to really understand what their needs are for growth, and work towards a tech architecture that supports this.
Tell us 3 fun facts about yourself.
- I’m an avid Thai Boxer, and the first five years of my training were spent with the 2012 Olympic Champion who lives right behind our farm in Thailand.
- My quiet time is usually spent in the deserts around Abu Dhabi – well, not ‘quiet’, as we tend to take the whole arsenal of dune buggies with us!
- I like to play the game Snowrunner when I can find the time.
