2021 CDAO Leadership Perspectives

CDAO Views on Priorities and Opportunities
May 2021

In 2020, data and analytics leaders had a full plate of challenges — from providing insights influencing business priorities during the crisis to supporting the acceleration of digital initiatives with analytics. Like their C-suite peers, CDAOs played a significant role as internal company leaders when it came to communications, change management, and employee experience and well-being.

This year, to ensure their companies remain compliant and up-to-date with evolving regulations, CDAOs are focused on governance programs. Data leaders are taking steps to modernize their governance frameworks to thrive in a digital business environment.

CDAOs from the world’s leading organizations shared their most important 2021 priorities across the business, as well as within their own functional areas.

Creating a data-driven culture has been the top priority for data and analytics leaders in the past two Leadership Perspective Surveys (spring and fall of 2020). CDAOs also shared their specific goals for cultural change and data literacy and the challenges to achieving them.

The top priorities for CDAOs — data culture and governance —  are reflected in how they plan to spend their resources this year.
