Give us a brief overview of the path that led to your current role.
I started my career as a Statistician and from there took on more responsibility for leading data teams and then data functions. The best thing about having a background in statistics is that I am able to focus on generating value from data and giving people insight that they can trust.
What is one of your guiding leadership principles?
Bring value to both your internal and external customers. Great data teams actively seek out knowledge about the business and its stakeholders, measuring their performance and impact so that they can evolve.
With disruption being a key theme of the past year, where do you see your role as a CDAO going in the next 1-2 years?
I see my role as one focused on building out data capabilities within my organisation. Fundamentally, I provide usable data and insight. Enabling everyone to use data should keep me and the team busy.
What advice would you give to someone just starting out in the role as a CDAO?
Consistently communicate the value that you are delivering and get advocates on board to expedite the excitement and interest.
Tell us 3 fun facts about yourself.
- I took up tap dancing during lockdown 1, and I am still doing it – though, in a studio, not on Zoom!
- My dog is the spitting image of Scooby Doo. He even does the crazy whirring legs when trying to run.
- I am currently doing a level-7 apprenticeship in Leadership through Imperial College.
