Give us a brief overview of the path that led to your current role.

I started off as an engineer, and I have moved across technology, sales, marketing and investment groups. After receiving my MBA in India, I was a Six Sigma Black Belt in GE Capital, working with the CIO. From there, I moved on to be among the founding business leaders of a mortgage solutions company that was eventually acquired by Oracle.

Thereafter, I moved to my current organization, Franklin Templeton, where I held various roles related to business transformation, including Head of US Business Strategy. But over time, I moved away from broader business roles to the emerging fields of data, AI and digital. After proving the role of data in client acquisition, marketing and revenue growth, I became excited about how AI can change the value proposition of a firm and an industry. We developed award winning academic research and patents, and I moved into the investment organization to make this a reality.

What is one of your guiding leadership principles?

What got you here won't get you there.

With disruption being a key theme of the past year, where do you see your role as a Digital Leader going in the next 1-2 years?

Disruption is at the core of what AI and digital capabilities tend to be. Businesses will look upon these roles to bring in that transformation internally and in their markets. The onus is on CDAOs to prove it, build the energy around it and to make it happen.

What advice would you give to someone just starting out in the role as a CDAO?

Keep learning. Our roles are part of a shifting landscape. They change before we figure them out.

Tell us a few fun facts about yourself.

Facts are more fun than fiction. Quantum physics, genomics, ancient history, classical music - they provide my escape. But for most people, I am boring dinner company.

What is the value of joining an Evanta community?

Tremendous. We need to learn from each other and take those learnings back to our organization.
