Give us a brief overview of the path that led to your current role.

I started as a programmer with a consulting firm and took a similar role at Johns Manville in 1992. I spent 10 years within the IT group before assignments in two of our business units focused on operational excellence. The IT and business experience enabled me to become CIO in 2008. The time spent within the business units was very beneficial and rewarding.

What is one of your guiding leadership principles?

Acting with integrity and authenticity, developing self and others, and staying curious are my guiding principles.

What is the greatest challenge your particular C-level role is facing today, and how are you addressing it?

Effectively managing risks while enabling business value is the greatest challenge.

What is the key to success for someone just starting out in your C-level role?

The key to success is to be a good listener. Actively seeking to understand the fundamentals of the business you are in, as well as thinking and acting like a business owner, are important.

How do you measure success as a leader?

I measure success through sustained outcomes.

What is the value of being a member of the Evanta community?
