Results from an employee engagement survey in 2011 indicated that Hill-Rom, Inc. was in need of a new approach to talent management and development. Lead by Hill-Rom’s executive team who helped define a new enterprise competency model, the HR department began the work of developing new end-to-end talent management practices, including talent acquisition, learning and development, talent review processes and succession planning. The goal was to develop a common language and integrated practices across the organization to support the goal of becoming “One Hill-Rom” and improve company performance. In this dynamic presentation, Jon May and Paul Erdahl explore successes they’ve witnessed during the transformation, challenges they faced throughout the implementation process, and their future plans to embed competencies across the organization and drive value to the business.

Changing employee expectations, new technologies, increased globalization, and a pressing need for agility in the face of a tumultuous business environment are transforming our relationship with work in such fundamental ways that tomorrow’s workplace will be barely recognizable to earlier generations. This new world of work will likely demand a very different type of HR organization as well as a complete rethink of traditional HR practices.
To explore how the HR function might evolve in the future in light of pressing business, technology, societal, and macroeconomic trends, Accenture launched the “The Future of HR” multi-year research initiative. In this session, David Gartside will explore the research, including trends reshaping the future of HR, and moderate a discussion around how the HR function can adapt to create the most value in light of these important new business trends.
